Processing stones into stone art and statues
The sculptures are made of natural stone with the greatest possible care.
The smaller sculptures are made of a soapstone, this stone is not suitable for outdoor use. The larger sculptures are mostly made of opalstone, springstone, cobaltstone or fruit serpentine. This is a harder type of stone and is suitable for outdoor use.
In the stone irregularities can occur such as veins and lines. These irregularities give the sculpture extra charm and a unique character.
The stone is worked in various stages with a hammer and chisel, grater and file. Once the coarse shape has been created, the stone is polished with waterproof sandpaper until it is completely smooth. After polishing, the sculpture is heated and a wax layer is applied. When the sculpture has cooled down again it is polished and gets its full colour and shine. The stone statue is ready.
The artist can play with different types of finish, such as rough finish, chiselled, hammered or polished stone, waxed or not. In this way each artist gives his sculpture its own uniqueness.
